Not just the Americans, Gerard! According to St Paul, they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of 'money is the root of all evil': which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Interestingly, the former Governor of the Bank of England, Baron King of Lothbury, thinks that it is not so much the love of money that is the root of all evil, Gerard:
"The right aphorism is that 'evil was the root of all money'! Money was invented in order to get round the problems of trusting other individuals. But then the question is, could you trust the person who issued the money?"
