As 'Spectre' hits UK cinemas at 19:30 (GMT) this evening, Sydney, it is worth reflecting that James Bond lives in a flat off the King's Road in Chelsea. His flat is looked after by an elderly Scottish housekeeper named May.
BFI - Battle of the Bonds: kisses, cocktails, kills, cars and cash
Due to unprecendented demand from around the world, everyone reading 'The Third' is cordially invited to see 'Spectre' tonight.
"He’s the spy who will not die: Bond – James Bond. Spectre starts on the Day of the Dead and roams the globe as 007 (Daniel Craig) joins forces with a beautiful widow (Monica Bellucci) to infiltrate a sinister organisation and bring it down. Romancing women is a part of every Bond movie. Roger Moore has been the luckiest Bond, kissing 24 women over seven movies and winning around 3.4 kisses per film. Timothy Dalton was less successful, kissing only two woman per movie. Bonding with James can prove harmful for your health: his partners have a one in three chance of being killed before the end credits.
“Martini, shaken not stirred,” is the tipple of choice. Daniel Craig is the only Bond whose love for alcohol exceeds his love for women.
Live and lots die: the body count has soared over the years. There’s one death every seven minutes, nine seconds. The Spectre star is not the deadliest Bond – that credit goes to Pierce Brosnan, with 33.75 kills per film.
High-speed car chases are essential. Craig has become the fastest Bond ever. His average top speed of 191 mph was reached in the Aston Martin DBS V12, which featured in both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Will this be higher in Spectre? Aston Martin created a new model specifically for him but no one was commenting on how fast it went. Bond’s villainous opponent drives a Jaguar C-X75 – but the chances of anyone buying one are remote. This hybrid car was cancelled before the film hit the box office.
Goldbringer: the franchise is incredibly profitable. With £9 billion in global sales to date, that’s a profit of £3,944,524 for every minute that has been filmed; the saga of debonair spies, obliging women and lavish locations never stops Moon-raking it in."
