Applications are invited from suitably qualified announcers with a specialist knowledge of music history and philosophy, fluency in at least three European languages, flawless articulation, and a good honours degree from Oxford or Cambridge, to fill a position in a promising new wireless venture. Must be a mature person of independent means and good family.
Applications, together with C.V. in triplicate and the names and addresses of five referees, to be posted to the Administrators on a Friday or a Tuesday.

Alas my excellent Honours degree is from London Univ, and sadly my family, on my father's side, are of a decidedly shady past - although stout Royalists at heart. Indeed one of my cousins is at the very present At Her Majesty's Pleasure. I fear I should find this career opening somewhat hard to fulfil

I should perhaps confess that I, too, do not really qualify, Neil McGowan. If I may go through my own shortcomings in some detail, if only for Sydney Grew: My knowledge of music history and philosophy is limited, my academic background lies elsewhere, and my articulation is seldom flawless. I can, on occasion, be surprisingly immature. As I appear to be an Administrator already, I shall disqualify myself entirely. I should clarify, however, that I am personally more than happy to waive some of the Administration's requirements, on the basis that an announcer only needs to announce. All that matters to me is an ability to communicate effectively in the appropriate medium. Upon reflection, however, I prefer the idea of being a wireless announcer to a disc jockey (DJ), for example, or even a radio or television presenter. Indeed, I would rather not be wired at all! In the link below are the details of the current presenters of Radio 3's Breakfast Show, waking the UK up with the finest classical music in the best performances: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006tmr6/profiles/presentersIn particular, I commend Petroc Trelawny to The Third today. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006tmr6/profiles/petroctrelawny
