I've been enjoying a broadcast on Swiss Radio of Johann Conradi's ARIADNE.
I had never heard any of Conradi's music before, nor did I realise that there was such a well-developed school in Germany before the time of Handel and Hasse.
Mr Conradi entered the world in 1645, and left it in 1699 - while Mr Handel was still in short pants, and playing the clavichord he'd hidden in his parent's attic.
Wikipedia tells me there was a whole generation of composers working at the Goosemarket Theatre in Hamburg before Keiser's time in charge there. Scope for a lot of research here, I think?!
