An impressive three-act opera first performed in 1926, and here staged in one of the old vegetable markets of London. The music is very fine, dramatic and loud, but the foolish singers adopt a style that is too Italian. The subject matter is the new kind of freedom released in a land of eternal ecstasy. The subservient "royal" opera house delayed for many years before in the end grudgingly putting this work on (Her Majesty happier with Mozart what!). I have cut out all the empty wittering and advertisements of which the unmusical English become fonder and fonder. Sample images:The work is here presented in two files. The first file contains acts one and two, which in total last for fifty-eight minutes. And the second file contains act three, which lasts for twenty-six minutes.
