Good morning, once again, to you all. I trust that all is well with all of you this morning. Out of interest, what are you up to this evening, ahinton? St Anne's College Oxford - Mary Ogilvie Lecture Theatre - MedtnerIf I may nevertheless address your final question directly: " ... Why shouldn't there be human beings?" Well, it could be argued that we are all, in many ways, an accident of evolution and that life on Earth is ultimately unsustainable anyway. Speaking personally, I may also be an accident of history, although my parents have never really clarified this point for me. Stephen Hawking once suggested that he did not think human beings would survive the next thousand years, unless we spread into space. There are too many accidents that can befall life on a single planet. Like Stephen, I am an optimist. We will reach out to the stars. I commend such an approach to everyone reading ' The Third' this coming weekend. Three cheers from kleines c, Big C and the legendary bb (Friday morning coffee)!

Stephen Hawking was thinking of physical (outer) space in this particular context, Sydney, and as a scientist, I suspect that he would have some difficulty with the concept of spiritual space. The Wall Street Journal - Spiritual SpacesOut of interest, what do you consider space spiritual to be?
