Plenty of nations have ceased to exist. They have generally been absorbed into larger groupings of states or empires, although their abolition has always been somewhat controversial. In abolishing a nation, do we lose its culture and collective sense of identity? Is Wales any the less for being part of the United Kingdom, for example. By no means! Wales is greater for being part of the United Kingdom! What about Australia? Is Tasmania any less for being part of a greater Australia, Uncle Henry?
