Good evening to everyone reading ' The Third' today. I trust that all is well with all of you. ' The Financial Times' leads tomorrow with some editorial comment that Britain should update its foreign investment rules. The salmon pink newspaper concludes that intellectual property is a strategic economic asset for the country. What do you think, Uncle Henry?

Good evening to everyone reading ' The Third' today! I trust that all is well with all of you! ' The Guardian' leads tomorrow with some editorial comment arguing that Labour’s economic plans will be pricey. ' The Guardian' defends its stand on the grounds that John McDonnell is right to call for the end of PFIs but, like the rest of his agenda, it won’t be easy to pay the bill! What do you think, Alistair?

Good morning to everyone reading ' The Third'. I trust that all is well with all of you today. To all those who came along to the British Film Institute (BFI Southbank) at the weekend, thank you very much indeed. The film was good, but the company so much better! The food and drink were superb, Uncle Henry. ' The Times' leads today with some editorial comment on the road to serfdom. ' The Times' thunders that Labour’s proposals for a huge expansion of state ownership and control would establish a command economy, to the immense cost of taxpayers and consumers. Is this what you would like, Jason?

' The Independent' leads today with some editorial comment that amidst the excitement of the conference, Labour supporters would do well to remember the huge challenges facing the party. 'The London Times' concludes that Corbynism would ruin the country, but it is filling a vacuum of ideas left by a Conservative government that has failed to inspire voters with its own! How would you vote, Jason?

Good morning to everyone reading ' Serious Topics', ' The Third' and all other social media today! I trust that all is well with all of you. The London ' Times' leads today with some editorial comment on a racing certainty. ' The Times' thunders that ethnic prejudice in the United Kingdom has changed but may not have declined. We are perhaps most conservative in our choice of partner, Alistair! What do you reckon, Uncle Henry?

They will be allotted randomly but only for the use of the deserving. How society will then improve!

Well, I suppose that any idea of ownership is merely temporary! It only lasts as long as we can sustain the illusion. Nevertheless, our lives are equally illusory, Uncle Henry, as is our money?

They will be allotted randomly but only for the use of the deserving. How society will then improve! PFIs were never a good idea in practice, however attractive they might once have seemed in theory. As to the abolition of money, someone will always own things, be it currency of some other kind, commercial and residential property; nothing can be "allotted" unless someone is voted in to do that and such "random" allocation would be as nonsensical as it would be impractical, to say nothing of who might decide upon what grounds who is "deserving". Under such a régime, "society" will not "improve"; it will destroy itself!

Will the country survive devolution? That would depend upon which country and what devolution; we have devolution in UK already but what is surely under possible consideration is whether and parts of it might seek and achieve independence.

Scottish independence was never really settled by the 2014 referendum! The Nationalists still want further autonomy, but is the tide turning against them. Does Brexit give Nicola Sturgeon another chance? And what about Northern Ireland? How can it protect its borders in Ireland? Wales is more cautious, but it still wants to keep up with the rest, Alistair! Can the United Kingdom remain truly united any more, Uncle Henry? It might, but the extent to which such unity prevails will inevitably remain open to question and possible challenge.

I am not really in favour of too much devolution, or too large a government! A world union makes sense, for example, but for the size of government it would require. Whether there is an optimal size of government, however, I am not sure. Small is beautiful! I suppose that we need to group ourselves together into communities which can relate to one another, whether England, Scotland or Wales, or all three together? So many governments probably offer a degree of flexibility to human development. After all, we live in a pluralistic society, Uncle Henry!

Where is your courage, Uncle Henry?

Good morning to everyone reading ' The Third'. I trust that all is well with all of you today. The London ' Times' leads this morning with some editorial comment on all the single ladies. ' The Times' thunders that getting married to yourself may not be quite as daft as it sounds! How about it, legendary babe, prudence? Meanwhile, Matthew Parris argues that the Tories are trapped in a zombie apocalypse. Matthew concludes that this paralysed government is done for and it will now take a bold challenger for the leadership to save the party! Boris, Alistair?
