Lady Florence Douglas (1855 to 1905) was born at Cummertrees, Dumfries. Her father was the eighth Marquess of Queensberry (1818 to 1858), and one of her brothers, John, became the ninth Marquess of Queensberry (1844 to 1900). She was thus the aunt of Lord Alfred Douglas (1870 to 1945), the famous Uranian poet and associate of Oscar Wilde (1854 to 1900). The surname "Dixie" derived from her 1875 marriage to Sir Alexander Beaumont Churchill Dixie, eleventh Baronet (1851–1924).
