"Waldemar focuses on Venice and its extraordinary impact on art history. He celebrates colour, drama and vitality by looking at the delicate colours of Bellini, the mystery of Giorgione, the splendour of Titian, the drama and chaos of Tintoretto and the glorious banquets of Veronese." Bellini, Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese are all correctly referred to by their surnames. So why is "Waldemar" given the condescending treatment? Is "Tony" Hall a real lord and how many other lords are there there? On the occasion of our only visit to Venice our gondola crashed into the end of the jetty because of the captain's lack of skill. Is the Corporation about to crash into the end of its jetty? I get excellent reception these days of the Third Programme from this address a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_three.m3u8except that it drops out every thirty seconds. Perhaps some local buffer could be sought/found but the presentations are seldom very interesting anyway. Whats his name Corvo/Rolfe enjoyed Venice but he was able to put up with/in his gondola.

Is "Tony" Hall a real lord I suppose much would depend upon what you might regard as "real" in this context. and how many other lords are there there? I neither know nor care and do not see what practical difference such statistics, or knowledge thereof, might make. On the occasion of our only visit to Venice our gondola crashed into the end of the jetty because of the captain's lack of skill. I am sorry to hear of this most unfortunate experience; I trust that you were uninjured by it. Is the Corporation about to crash into the end of its jetty? I suspect that it has already almost done that; indeed, it would not surprise me if it is eventually jetty-soned altogether... Enjoy it while it lasts!

I suppose that just as "Waldemar" is given the condescending treatment, "Sydney", so are you! Perhaps we ought to address ourselves more formally! For the record, we have been enjoying Waldemar Januszczak's The Renaissance Unchained. I commend it to everyone reading ' The Third'! Out of interest, Sydney, when did you go to Venice?

. . . Out of interest, Sydney, when did you go to Venice? In the seventies of the last century kc. I took a Mini over a few alpine passes. It was not a very successful trip, because travelling companion wanted to see more art and I wanted to see more mountains.
