So - have any of our respected members registered with Mr. Hall and experienced the New Vision?

Golly he sounds quite Churchillian! I do hope that you, as one of Radio 3's devoted listeners, will profit from his endeavours. I wonder whether Mr. H would consider setting that inspiring speech to music?

Well, as Tony Hall led a most glorious renaissance at the Royal Opera House over the past decade or so, Sydney, he is a natural ally for BBC Radio 3. The BBC has always had a tension between the elitist and the populist, ahinton, and this is very obviously at the heart of the Radio 3 debate. Sage Gateshead - BBC Radio 3 Free Thinking Festival: Are Audiences Killing Culture?I have always put myself firmly at the extreme end of the populist camp, arguing that great art is not just for the elite. It is for everyone. This is a debate which we are going to win, not only this weekend at Sage Gateshead, but again and again. Join us at the Free Thinking Festival! A link unlikely to be rewarding in my experience. Discussion there invariably turns away from ideas towards personalities. One point that can perhaps be made is that the lower passions should not be permitted to take control. The straight-backed Englishman not the slouching lotophagist. No dreamy forgetfulness for us!

For the record, I got an online survey to do today from the BBC. The survey offered me the chance to comment on some of the key points from Tony Hall’s speech. My responses will be considered with other feedback the BBC receives and used to help shape future BBC strategy. I generally endorsed what Tony had said in his speech, Sydney. As for ' The Radio 3 Forum', I can also report that the legendary bb is already at Sage Gateshead for this weekend's Free Thinking Festival, and I will be arriving in about an hour. Tomorrow afternoon at around ten to four, the legendary bb and I are going to speed date both Enemies and Friends of Radio 3, and anyone else who bothers to turn up! Naturally, everyone reading ' The Third' is cordially invited to speed date the New Generation Thinkers, too! Sage Gateshead - BBC Radio 3 Free Thinking Festival: "Speed Date" New Generation ThinkersI should add that french frank has responded very positively to the legendary bb, setting up a special forum on Freethinking at the Sage. The Radio 3 Forum - Arts & Ideas - Freethinking at the SagePerhaps the legendary bb will become the Sage over the weekend! Three cheers from kleines c, Big C and the legendary bb (Friday afternoon tea)! Sage Gateshead - Sir Michael Straker Café
