I was going to say more about this, but I see that it has all been said in six pages of Guardian comments: www.guardian.co.uk/uk-news/2013/jul/19/enigma-codebreaker-alan-turing-posthumous-pardon1) There was no crime, so "pardon" is an inappropriate word and simply a further insult. 2) Had Turing been living, it would be up to him to "pardon" the government, not the other way around. 3) Thousands upon thousands of those convicted under those laws are still living, and each individual should be awarded a large sum of money as compensation for the injustice that was done to him. (In fact I think I will now join Mr. Tatchell in setting that process in course before it is too late.)

This is part of the 'do not sell secrets coz yer gay' policy of the secret service, mi6 has lots of 'gay bars' behind it, so the 'gay people' are happy.
