Annam was one of three protectorates in French Indo-China. The other two were Tonkin to its north and Cochin-china to its south. Annam existed as such from 1883 to 1954.
Population in 1900: 5 million
Language: Khmer
Capital: Hué
Monetary system: ***
Canh Tinh: 1 Dong
Tanh Thai (1889 to 1907): 10 Sapeque
Duy Tan (1907 to 1916): 10 Sapeque 2 examples?
Quang Trang: 10 Sapeque 3 examples
I have seven coins of Annam, all with a square hole at the centre; they have to be re-catalogued in accordance with the latest listings. There are two complletely different catalogues, and my own old catalogue uses Chinese characters, the significance of which I have forgotten.
