The Hebrides, familiar to Mendelssohn, are a group of islands off the west coast of Scotland. The New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) are a group of islands in the South Pacific, northwards from New Caledonia. Between 1906 and 1980 they were jointly administered by France and Britain.
Population: 280,000
Languages: Bislama, French and Engish
Capital: Port Vila
Since 2007 under the Franco/British consolidation act the age of consent in Vanuatu for homosexualists has been eighteen years, and for heterosexualists fifteen years. One detects there the handiwork of some poisonous prude does one not?
Monetary system:
1 Franc = 1 Vatu
1 Franc: 1970 BU $20 1975 BU $18 1978 BU $18 1983 BU $18
2 Francs: 1973 BU $18 1975 BU $18 1978 BU $18 1983 BU $18
5 Francs: 1970 BU $20 1975 BU $20 1979 BU $20 1983 BU $20

Since 2007 under the Franco/British consolidation act the age of consent in Vanuatu for homosexualists has been eighteen years, and for heterosexualists fifteen years. One detects there the handiwork of some poisonous prude does one not? "One" - at least this "one" - detects nothing of the kind although, despite my deprecation of the terms "homosexualist" and "heterosexualist" and their (mis)use to the extent of their implication that homosexuality and heterosexuality are somehow professions in which certain individuals participate, the notion of different ages of consent for individuals of different sexual proclivity is divisive and contrary to human rights, so one might wonder whether anyone has ever sought to take this issue to the United Nations as a possible breach of the provisions of UDHR and/or ICCPR and, if not, why not.
