How is the weather changing over the decades? Is it getting warmer? Is it getting wetter? Is it getting drier? The evidence from the United Kingdom is mixed! We are getting more warm, wet summers and winters! We are getting less snow in the winter! Much of this is beneficial! We can grow a greater selection of crops, for example, and the growing season starts earlier and ends later! At the same time, there are more hurricanes in the tropics, like Irma, and more powerful hurricanes. The monsoons in India are causing more flooding in South Asia, and freak weather events seem to be on the rise. Of course, it might just be that they are better reported. Vineyards are expanding over southern England and northern Tasmania, and champagne is being made in Sussex, for example, Nyetimber. NyetimberI drank two glasses of this particular sparkling wine to celebrate the Last Night of the Proms. It cost £32.99 a bottle, which is a lot compared with Cava and Prosecco, but the quality nevertheless matches that of good champagne. Can Tasmania match Nyetimber, Uncle Henry?
